L'efficacité médico-économique de l'éducation thérapeutique chez des patients obèses

Abstract - Cost-effectiveness of therapeutic patient education for obese patients
Introduction: Therapeutic patient education is crucial to motivate a long term change of behavior. But is it cost-effective? Method: The medical-economic impact was evaluated 9 months before and 9 months after a five days therapeutic patient education programme for 50 obese patients. Results: The weight loss was of 8.6% and the global health costs were decreased by 15.8%. The reduction of costs generated by physicians was of 12.3%, for healthcare providers of 8.6% and lost workdays were reduced by 57.4%. Conclusion: The cost-effectiveness of a therapeutic patient education programme for obese patients has been shown. A cost reduction of 492 € per patient has been possible after only 9 months and although the follow-up of patients had been increased.


Résumé
Introduction: L'éducation thérapeutique du patient obèse est cruciale pour motiver un changement de comportement à long terme. Est-elle économiquement rentable ? Méthode: L'impact médico-économique a été évalué 9 mois avant et 9 mois après un programme d'éducation thérapeutique de 5 jours chez 50 patients obèses. Résultats: La perte de poids a été de 8,6 % et l'économie des coûts globaux de la santé de 15,8 %. La diminution des dépenses générées par les médecins a été de 12,3 %, celles des paramédicaux de 8,6 % et les indemnités pour arrêt de travail de 57,4 %. Conclusion: L'efficience médico-économique d'un programme d'éducation thérapeutique pour patients obèses est démontrée. Une économie de 492 €  par patient a été possible, déjà après 9 mois, alors même que le suivi des patients a été intensifié.
